Minor in Latinx Studies

October 8, 2024

MU has a vibrant degree program in Latinx Studies — fulfilling a dream of the Cambio Center from over 20 years ago! Led by MU’s School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, this transdisciplinary program was designed in partnership with the Cambio Center and faculty members from the University of Missouri in Columbia (MU) and St. Louis (UMSL). Program faculty are specialists in many disciplines: Spanish, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Human Development and Family Science, Women and Gender Studies, and Geography, among others. To supplement the courses offered at MU, students can also take courses online at UMSL.

The Latinx Studies minor consists of 15 credit hours of coursework, which include:

  • A required introductory course (3 credits)
  • A required capstone project (3 credits)
  • Three elective classes on Latinx topics at different levels in humanities and social sciences (9 credits)
    • At least one of the electives must be an upper-level course (3000 level).
    • At least 6 of the 15 credits must be taken at MU.
  • Read more information about the courses here.
