Friday Morning Options: Site Visit or Workshop!
On Friday morning, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about immigrant-serving agencies and working within immigrant communities in mid-Missouri while enjoying breakfast from 8-10 am. Space is limited, so participants must choose one of the following options during registration:
- Site Visit 1 City of Refuge — “City of Refuge helps refugees navigate a new life in mid-Missouri. In line with our mission, we provide wraparound services under three categories: relational care, education, and development.” At this site visit, you will get a tour of the facilities and see first-hand how City of Refuge meets its mission via its programming, including the City Boutique, City Preschool, and more! NOTE: Transportation is on your own to 10 N Garth Ave, Columbia, MO 65203 — just 0.6 miles from Tiger Hotel.
- Site Visit 2 The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri — “The Food Bank shares food with neighbors by accepting donations, using our incredible bulk purchasing power to buy food and distributing it at no charge to partners in 32 counties.” At this site visit, you will learn how The Food Bank is essential for greater Missouri and how it adapts its work and services for multilingual neighbors and newcomers. Transportation provided by van.
- Site Visit 3 CoMo Cooks Shared Kitchen — “CoMo Cooks Shared Kitchen is a commercial kitchen and food business incubator located on The Loop. We’re eliminating obstacles to entrepreneurship and making it easier for everyone to start and grow their food-based business.” At this site visit, you will learn about the mission of CoMo Cooks as you tour the kitchen space, see how it is managed with over 40 small businesses, and enjoy breakfast snacks from Latine vendors. Transportation provided by van.
- Workshop 1: Telling Stories of Change and Migration (title & description coming soon)
