Storytelling Awards and Events

September 11, 2025 The Cambio Center is excited to share that we have granted eight incredible awards to keep the Cambio Storytelling Festival alive throughout the year! One of them is for a special storytelling event called Raices y Recuerdos, which was awarded to a community-based Latina moms-led support group. Another, called Alomi pa pa pa – Tales by Moonlight Across Oceans, centers on the oral storytelling traditions of the Igala people, a vibrant Nigerian ethnic group whose diaspora thrives in Missouri, particularly in Columbia.  An important focus of the awards is to support interactions between long-time residents of Missouri…

Resources for our Times

February 7, 2025 For decades, Cambio Fellows have done research on the experiences of and responses to demographic change. In addition, one of our regional community partners, the MICA Project for Migrant and Community Action, has put together a Standing Together guide that can help newcomers and allies understand their rights.  For here at the university, MU International Student and Scholar Services…

Gracias, from the Director

December 4, 2024 Dear Cambio Community,  During this time of giving thanks, we must say muchas gracias to our beautiful comunidad. Your work matters. You matter. Local governments and politics matter. Thank you for your continued strength, resilience, and partnerships.   Many of us do our work in Missouri or nearby. As of 2022, 4.1% of Missouri’s population was classified as foreign-born, and many more are the children of immigrants. Cambio’s research has shown how newcomers contribute their assets, culture, ideas, and love to create thriving communities. And various organizations and projects work alongside them.
